Be Still: Why Your Health Needs More Quiet (Not More Hustle)
Dec 26, 2025You don’t have to hustle your way to wholeness.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by all the things you "should" be doing to take care of yourself—the meal plans, the movement, the morning routines—you’re not alone. The world’s version of wellness often comes with a checklist and a side of guilt.
But true wellness? It starts with stillness.
Stillness is where the body softens. The mind quiets. The spirit breathes.
Psalm 46:10 reminds us, "Be still, and know that I am God." That’s not just a beautiful verse for your wall art. It’s an invitation to wellness at its most foundational level.
The Wellness of Stillness
We often think of wellness as action—more water, more sleep, more steps, more green smoothies. And yes, those things are good. But when your nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight mode and your mind is spinning with to-dos, your body can’t fully heal or rest.
Stillness shifts you from survival mode into restoration.
It activates your parasympathetic nervous system—the one responsible for rest, digestion, immune function, and even hormone balance. It's where your body does its best healing work. And spiritually? It's where we actually hear God.
Stillness Isn’t Doing Nothing. It’s Doing the Right Thing.
Being still doesn’t mean checking out. It means tuning in.
To your breath. To your heartbeat. To the presence of a God who isn't impressed by your productivity, but who meets you in your pause.
Jesus modeled this so well. He often retreated to quiet places (Luke 5:16). Not because He was weak—but because He knew the power of quiet. In the stillness, He connected with the Father. In the stillness, strength was renewed.
Easy Ways to Practice Stillness This Week:
- Start your day with a breath prayer: Inhale "Be still", exhale "and know."
- Step outside for 5 minutes with no phone, just presence.
- Try a Holy Yoga practice that centers movement around breath and Scripture.
- Diffuse calming oils like Frankincense, Cedarwood, or Peace & Calming during prayer or journaling.
- Create a "pause practice" when you feel overwhelmed: one deep breath, one verse, one simple prayer.
Final Thought
You don’t have to earn rest. You were created for it.
Stillness isn’t a luxury—it’s part of God’s design for your healing. And it might just be the gentle reset your mind, body, and spirit have been craving.
So before you add one more thing to your wellness list—pause. Breathe. Be still.
